Cor & Grace Koelewijn

the pioneers of the Namugongo Children's Village

Cor & Grace have been serving the orphans of Uganda ever since 1986 together. Cor first started out alone but was joined by Grace in 1992. They have a passion for the orphans of Africa and Uganda in particular. In the early years it was not all that easy for someone to start a project like the Namugongo Children's Village but Cor & Grace have proofed themselves true pioneers as nothing could hold them back from establishing their dream of helping the helpless.

Children's Welfare Mission

What We have been doing for the past 16 years

The Children's Welfare Mission was a Dutch founded Charity with an Evangelical Character. Our goal was to identify disadvantaged and desperate orphans and help them with a good education. The preferred method was to give them a place in one of the schools that are run by the mission. However, we also helped some of them with school fees and the necessary scholastic materials.

Uganda,

the pearl of Africa!

This Uganda is the country where God has called us to serve. Uganda, a most beautiful country, nicknamed the pearl of Africa by Winston Churchill, yet it seems that they have received a double portion of trouble! We love Uganda, and we love it's people. We hope we can move your heart to be completely sold out to Uganda as well! Uganda, read more about it...

Orphan Care

is what we are all about

Orphans make up ~10% of the population in Uganda! Cor & Grace have taken it at heart and are addressing the situation. With the help of Sponsors, we Educate the Orphans at our schools. The Orphans receive very appropriate help and are well catered for in our schools where the boarding facilities are quite good. We try to strike a balance as we wouldn't like to spoil the Children so as not to be able to place them back in Uganda's present day society.

Children's Villages

is where we place the orphans

The Children's Village Namugongo was started in 1990. It begun with the desire to help the Orphans in Uganda. We discovered that the best way to help those orphans is to start a school. And this we did as you can read on this site.

Volunteers

are involved in most of the work

Volunteers where a priority for our ministry as Cor himself started as such. We believe it to be extremely educational for the youth that decides to dive into such an adventure. We have put it as one of our objectives as we have an obligation to create an awareness for the west on what goes on at this side of the globe.

Education

is what our Mission is all about.

Whether you talk about Orphans, the local community or the Volunteers; this is what we do. Education in Uganda is so much valued by the population, yet many do not have access to it. You will find that in contrast with the European countries, young people LOVE going to school. In spite of the UPE program, there is still a great need for help to orphans education.

Christian Culture

Our Christian Culture is what drives us to do this work. It is Christ who sets us free from our burden of sin and it is Him Who drives us to help the less advantaged in this world. The team of the Children's Welfare Mission consists mainly of Evangelical Born-Again Christians.

Namugongo

a place of pilgrimage

Namugongo, where we started our ministry, is a well known place in Uganda, just 15 KM from the heart of Kampala. The significance of the place is that about 100 years ago, the 22 newly converted Christians where burned on the steak by the then ruling king of the land. This was done as the Christians seem to have more regard for their God then for the king. Some of the converts where members of the royal family themselves. There is a shrine where a scene depicts how this took place. Internationally this place is well known but more so among the catholic believers.
